I don't have any signal at all. So, I doubt 911 is going to work. I get a carrier error.

I'm really remote, so it's not like there's a second distant tower I can use.

Ah ok. I just was saying a old smartphone without a simcard and no phone connectivity can still call 911, even a payphone for free.

That would indeed work, but the cell tower was down. If you go like 20 minutes up the road, you're out of cell service for about another hour's worth of driving. I'm deep in the woods of Maine.
