I'm trying to get back into bass guitar (hand injury) hopefully I'll be able to contribute sooner than later. my band needs me!
You can share old stuff! ;-)
Also, playing can be very good for physical therapy but, as always, consult a qualified medical professional before listening to me.
Long story made short, I was in a motorcycle accident and they wanted to operate on one wrist and hand. I was playing again soon after and refused the surgery. I opted for PT and it did not harm my form, nor did it slow me down.
Every injury is different. Consult professionals. I asked PT what they thought my odds of recovery would be if I'd do just PT and they gave me good enough odds to counter the potential downsides of the surgery gone wrong.
Evaluate and absolutely do not listen to me - except as a means to seek more information. (My lawyer would kill me if I said anything different than this. Why yes, yes I do have a lawyer! Damned right, i do. Best idea ever. He gives me brilliant advice.)
In my case, my playing was able to be translated into PT. I do mounds and mounts of drills and exercises. I pretty much just started off smaller and lighter, and then kept up what I'd usually do for practice.
So, consult a qualified physical therapist and see if maybe there's something you can do (with playing) to speed your recovery!
And do not take medical advice from strangers on the 'net. That's a horrible idea. Listen to them! (I ain't that kinda doctor.)
