Hello and welcome to the spooky edition of the Friday Night Guitar Thread!

Here's the song I thought I dragged out every Halloween, but it wasn't uploaded - so I don't think I've shared it in years. So, here you go!

Note the lack of vocals! Ha! I crack me up! There aren't supposed to be any!

[–] 3 pts

pretty cool jam, glad ya shared it

[–] 1 pt

Thanks! It's EWG and I love their work. It's also suitable for Halloween, I think. Well, the name makes it suitable.

The mix ended up being a bit bass heavy, probably as a factor of trying to level the bass while making it stereo. It was recorded quite a while ago. It was last modified on November 1st 2019.

[–] 1 pt

i like heavy bass so it sounded good to me lol. i try to remove bass only to find i keep it mostly pegged on my amps lmmfao

[–] 1 pt

Nice! That got me thinkin' bout Rick Derringer, and "whatever happened to..." So I went to wiki.

I figured Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo was about all I'd find, but he has quite a history. I didn't know he founded The McCoys (Hang on Sloopy) and he played guitar on...well, he toured with Ringo's All-Stars for a few years, he put out an album with Bogart and Appice, he played guitar on Total Eclipse of the Heart. There's a list on his wiki page that's quite impressive.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Derringer

Free Ride was a standard rock song back in the day. Good guitar riff.

[–] 0 pt

He should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just for Free Ride and Rock-n-Roll Hoochie Koo.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, he's got quite a bit of history. Our mix of the song isn't as good as it should have been. For reasons, it came out the pipe a bit bass heavy. I'm not sure why, 'cause that was recorded like 3 years ago (shared first on November 1st, 2019).

Bass doodle with words. Turn mic gain down some so hope it sounds good. Though it's cold I was able to play outside

[–] 0 pt

I listened for a bit, but have notifications. I'll listen to the rest when I get a minute. That's pretty solid recording considering it was done outside.

I don't play outside nearly enough. About the only time I play outside is when there's a fire, a party on my lawn, or I'm getting paid to play.

[–] 1 pt

no biggies. hpefully it turned out decent. im going post my other doodle as well in few minutes got to upload first. i love it outside but im useing a samson mic for doing interviews and other recordings. using a usb to usb c adapter and hooking up to my phone and recording with bandlab. though i plan to learn mixing so i can rewcord bass and guitar and maybe ill find drums or someone to play them and can make whole songs.

[–] 0 pt

Ah, that works. Your track was like 9 minutes long, so I'll catch the end of it later. I generally have about a 3 minute attention span at the start of a thread. Though some of the threads have been slower lately. I don't actually mind it when it's slower. We have the thread no matter how many people show up.

[–] 3 pts

Here's a Halloween song about zombies, written by The Pine Box Boys, and covered by my son and me.

[–] 1 pt

Heh... I've never heard that song before. It's great that you got your son involved. I've got a couple of tracks with my son on 'em. We've been known to get a little bit inebriated and turn a live show into a bit of a family gathering. The crowd loves it, so we're not taking anything away from their experience.

I shared a 'new' band with Crazy recently and while I listened to 'em you too were on the list of folks who might like them. So, while this is off topic for the thread, no mod is gonna try to ban me! Here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T80B7s7ekGo&feature=emb_imp_woyt

Give that a listen.

[–] 1 pt

Cool song.

[–] 0 pt

I have started to like that band, Blackberry Smoke. I went through and listened to a half dozen, maybe slightly more, of their songs and decided they weren't bad. I also checked their "rig rundown" videos, which might be of interest to you. One of 'em was done by the bass player. So, just check their video library and you should be able to find it - if you want.

[–] 1 pt

My little brother turned me on to Blackberry Smoke a couple of years ago. He just spent last week on the Florida Keys, where he had VIP tix to see 'em.

[–] 1 pt

Nice! I am not even a little surprised that you already know of them. When I shared them (they were new to me, and new to Crazy), I was thinking they were right up your alley, the kinda music you'd appreciate.

So, I guess my presumptions are correct! They really did just ooze of something you'd like to listen to.

[–] 0 pt

Nice job never heard that before neither. Awesome the little one play too.

Hi guys, I hope all is well. TIL that the fixed half of a sliding glass door costs over $1000. How 'bout that? Maybe I'll just buy more firewood instead.

I wrote and recorded a new song this afternoon.

[–] 1 pt

LOL I do believe I mentioned that it was gonna be costly to repair said door.

If you're handy, and it wasn't welded from the factory, you can probably find someone to custom cut a piece of Lexan to suit. I'm 99.9% certain that you won't break the Lexan replacement. Fitting it into the fixture might not be easy, if they tack welded it or whatever they're doing with aluminum these days. I recommend against the duct tape route, no matter how tempting that may seem.

[–] 1 pt

Lexan looks like it may be an acceptable replacement to get me through the winter.

Over the past few months, I broke the fixed door of the slider, my dog broke a living room window, I threw a rock with my lawn mower that took out the passenger side window of my jeep, and a few days ago, I leaned a glass picture frame up on my workbench, just to have it fall and smash, scattering fragments across the floor of my studio.

Before this year, I don't recall ever breaking an expensive piece of glass. Wtf...

[–] 1 pt

Unless it's double pane, in which case you case you could also double it. It should have similar thermal properties to glass, unless it's fancy glass that blocks or retains heat.

You need to keep away from glass, or you're gonna end up getting hurt!

I once dated a chick whose father owned a glazier's shop. She had no trouble climbing out on a 90' ledge and putting glass in.

Oh, and Jerry Lee Lewis died. I thought he was already dead, but I guess not.

[–] 1 pt

Really good song. Nice and mellow with a good melody and groove.

[–] 0 pt

Cheaper just buy new assembly and install or what.

[–] 2 pts

Hi everbody. I did this song, Little Red Riding Hood by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs. Put in all kinds of spooky sounds like howls and roars. Messing around.

I guess good Halloween songs are moon songs. American Werewolf in London had Blue Moon (2 versions, Marcels and the original slow version), Bad Moon Rising, Moondance. Pretty cool. Good movie.

[–] 1 pt

Great job, and bonus, my puppies really liked the sound effects!

[–] 0 pt

I haven't heard that song in ages!

In fact, the last time I heard that song was when my kids were little or when I covered it for a Halloween gig.

[–] 2 pts

Chris and I played the other day

[–] 1 pt

Great job guys!

[–] 1 pt

Thank you. I thought it turned out real nice especially considering we had just learned it

[–] 0 pt

Also...

Now that I think about it, have you covered Wayfaring Stranger before? I kinda wanna say you've previously covered it, but don't quote me on that. Someone else covered it back when COF was still alive and kicking.

Speaking of which, I guess it's safe to assume that the archives are done. LOL If you're not doing 'em, I'm sure as fuck not doing them. Maybe we'll find a big helper sometime and they'll resume doing the archives. The missing months will be considered the dark ages.

[–] 1 pt

We can add our songs to archives?

[–] 0 pt

We used to have archives of all our work. See https://fngt.gq/forum and scroll down. Our archivist passed away.

[–] 0 pt

No, we never played that one before. has shared that song before, in fact he didicated it to COF

[–] 0 pt

Also, someone shared this URL with me:

https://www.greenbaycrimereports.com/

[–] 0 pt

Also, this is like the 3rd day this week I've started drinking during the day.

I think I might go a few weeks without drinking anything alcoholic. I should probably check and see if I'm into the addiction territory.

I probably won't go to those extremes, but I probably should.

Ah well...

[–] 0 pt

I recorded a copy of that when COF's mother passed. It was her favorite song. The family sat around with it cranked and sang it. so I'm told.

I have a much lesser opinion of that family today, but at the time I felt like I'd done something good. To COF it was good, great even. It was one of his favorite of my 'private' tracks, that is tracks I shared just with him and in private - of which there were a few, some of which have still never been heard by others.

(My internet went out for about 35 minutes.)

[–] 1 pt

My buddy Chris stopped over for a while the other day and we played a Halloween song!

Here's the

[–] 1 pt

wish i could play better loved to do a collab with yaw.

[–] 0 pt

Go for it!!

[–] 1 pt

i dont know any of yaws songs yaw play lol i generally dont do covers and such jist doodle since ive never gottent o really play with anyone before. i do know alot of metallica cliff version bass lines though i cant play them all these days well not until i find a decent 24fret neck to slap on this jackson bass i bought. i do know some tool though. maybe do a pink floyd money collab?

[–] 0 pt

LOL Nice! I like that you did the backup vocals.

And, I can't even complain about tuning. As near as I could tell, it was tuned just fine.

[–] 0 pt

Thanks, yeah that was me

[–] 0 pt

LOL Yeah, I could tell it was you. Your guitars were in tune - and in tune with each other!

Well, I don't have perfect pitch (believe it or not!) but they sounded close enough to me!

I can more tell if the guitars are tuned to each other and tuned to themselves. Speaking of guitars, did you restring the V yet?!?

[–] 1 pt

Ok so got major side track and composed a 6min jam lollol guitar and bass track https://files.catbox.moe/o83e8r.mp3

[–] 0 pt

That was quite a bit more bass than the first track, even though the first track was longer - if that makes sense.

[–] 1 pt

my speakers are crap so i cant really tell how much bass is there only listen for tone of it and say ok you can hear it blended in but cant judge if its muffing so of the tone. i know i couldnt really hear the rhythm guitar when i mixed it in and it was raised 10% while bass stayed and lead was lowered 12% as it over powered everything. i will say the lead has alot of pickup changes through out, along with series paralell and coil cut on the humbucker for a far range in tones. pickup changes were normal 1-5 with addition to B+N+M and B+N combos i more so used the b and the b+n combos the most through out.

[–] 0 pt

See, that's one thing I take seriously. For the thread, I'm usually in my studio. In my studio, my speakers cost more than most people spend on their computer. And that's just my computer speakers - though I tend to swap 'em out with some regularity.

Right now, my computer's sound is coming out of a decent set of Klipsch self-powered speakers. I've taken pretty good care of my hearing, so I like to hear good audio. Regular computer speakers would drive me bonkers!

Halloween is gay, and there is nothing 'scary' or 'spooky' about it, except for the gay part
