LOL I'm not sure I'd even recommend complete sobriety!
We're humans. We've been using external substances to moderate and change our mood since we climbed down from the trees. Even some animals happily, and seemingly intentionally, consume drugs.
It's all about moderation.
There's times when I've not been very moderate in my use. Lesson learned.
If you're performing then you owe the paying customer, the audience, a show that meets their expectations. That's going to vary, but sobriety (to some extent) is likely to help.
Back in the 1980s, I used to play for a band that was trashed but we still played the chem-free and high-school circuits telling kids to not do drugs. We straight up lied and pretended we were sober. There wasn't a sober one among us - but we maintained.
We used to get letters from teen girl fans. This is not nearly as exciting as one might think. No, it's not nearly as exciting as the movies make it out. Frankly, I never want to see another letter that uses hearts as dots.
Honestly the only time I've dealt with teen girl fans was when I was a teen. 16 to be more precise. When I was in a west african drumming group/band. We played legit traditional music from west africa. Our leader went to africa and got lessons from the locals I wanted to go but could not manage the 3k to go. Anyway I was asked to come to a leadership conference along with one of other band member. So we get there and they tell us theres a talent competition and we had brought our drums so we played. Standing ovation got on the local news and the teen girl fans are more fun when you are a teen. Many um lets say good times were had in the sauna. I was sober the entire time not that I wanted to be.
