They still make those cars. They're made not too far from you, actually.

And, I have to wonder how that G wagon (AMG!!!) ended up on the market in that condition.

You're probably right - meaning 'rapper' or something, who probably failed to keep up on the payments and it's probably on the 2nd or even 3rd owner by now. None of 'em can afford the payments so the bank hopes for the best and sends it here. (Sometimes banks are the former owners, I see it in my paperwork.)
