Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, . That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then .

my son and one of his friends are working on his friends car out in my driveway and they have a bolt that holds the control arm and connects to this frame and subframe junction. they took a grinder and grinded the bolt off that was holding the control arm at the frame and grinded the nit off of the bottom of the bolt under the frame. There is a piece of the bolt that is not threaded stuck in the frame. they have an aceteline torch that they have never used, can they just heat the fuck out of the bolt peice and melt it out?

Not if it's threaded and no oxy/acetylene doesn't get hot enough to really melt metal.

And, if they melt the bolt they'd melt the metal around it.

Heat it and beat it, assuming it's threaded. If it's not threaded, heat it and punch it. If it's threaded, you're trying to get it to come out a few threads so that you can get something to grip on it. If it's not threaded, you're heating it and then using something to punch it out.

It sounds like they've made some bad decisions.

If it's threaded, there are tools that will help you get it out like it was a stripped nut. But, this might need to be drilled out. You can often drill a smaller hole - just a little smaller, and then make the bolt collapse into the space you drilled out. If it's not drilled, the same thing applies but you can just drill it out and not have to worry about the threads.

Make sense?

it is not threaded

That's a good sign. Heat and punch.

You're not melting the metal (effectively) to remove the bolt.

It's not that hot - and that's a good thing. Heat and punch. It'll come loose.
