They don't have a player for that role. So, they can't really sacrifice a player. All kicks in this team are from the stand. Well, all kickoffs.

So, the ref did it. You're never gonna see that in the NFL. Hell, they'd have kept trying it on the stand a few times and then had someone hold it from their team.

In the NFL if it falls off once they make them use a player on the kicking team

In this case, they just used a ref.

It worked. Everyone was happy about it. The receiving team didn't even bitch about it.
