You have done nothing here but state 'you're wrong' which is not a compelling argument. I'm not even trying to defend Hendrix. But this argument of someone being better is entirely subjective. I love Mingus and think Jellyroll is entirely overrated. Early Miles was hot, later Miles was just drugs. Who is better? This isn't like putting two cars on a quarter mile. One will be faster, end of argument. Art isn't like that. Sorry man, no matter your schooling, you are absolutely wrong. And I did more than say 'you're wrong'.

Shit, sorry. I deleted you post by accident. It's a single button click.

Can you repost it?

I'm truly sorry about that.

It's all still in the thread. Basically, I'm going to reduce my argument to this- many people can learn to play Cliffs of Dover, it requires an artist to write Cliffs of Dover. And there isn't a school in the world which can teach such a thing. The number of notes crammed into a measure isn't a measure of skill. Or maybe, it's Only a measure of skill and not artistry. I'm not interested in how fast someone can play notes. I want your soul inside those notes. And that can't be measured. The idea is ridiculous.

I'll try to make it simple.

Who you like is of no importance for this list. None.

What matters is their ability to play their instrument well. That doesn't even mean pleasing - nor does it mean fast. It means the ability to combine, innovate, master the skills, demonstrate the skills and techniques, and continue to demonstrate a growth towards true mastery.

If you're curious, I'd really, really suggest reading the articles.

My own favorites aren't even on the list. BB King? Loved 'em. Saw him in concert many times. I've even played with some of the people he's had on his stage.

He's not on my list.

The list isn't "who I like better." That's subjective. The list is who is better. That's objective - as objective as such things can be. Frankly, after about the first three, you can kinda swap 'em around a bit and the list will still make sense.
