You're not too far from the truth!
Indeed, I prefer to replicate music. My composition is not as good as I'd like it to be. I am schooled. I'm actually really good at what I do.
But you're sort of right. I'll never write a masterpiece. I've composed lots of music that has regional popularity and I've done quite a bit of session work. There's pretty good odds that you've heard someone that I've played with. (I'm really easy to dox.)
But, you're right! I'll never write a masterpiece. I'm not that good. I can play better than Hendrix - but I can't compose better than him. I can play Hendrix better than Hendrix can play Hendrix - and I'll prove it.
Speaking of composition. Here's an example:
Caution, it's pretty horrible. However, folks like it. I don't know why - but it's pretty basic and doesn't even begin to show any skill beyond being able to stay in key, keep time, and use of three scales to alternate between tones. It's not impressive - nor will I ever compose anything impressive.
What I do is faithful replication - except for some session (studio) work.
So now we've gotten somewhere. You can't write, you just said so. So, are you Better than Hendrix? No you're not. Being a mimic isn't what art is. You're schooled,bu have no talent or soul for the actual craft of making music. You regurgitate what someone else created.
We've gotten somewhere because we've defined a measure of better. I completely disagree w your definition. It's wrong. Because I'm interested in art and you're interested in school.

The question is can I play guitar better than Hendrix. The answer is yes.
If the question is can I compose guitar better than Hendrix, then the answer is no.
I have a greater technical understanding than Hendrix ever had. I've also have nearly 50 years to perfect the techniques, something he never had. I also have tons and tons of experience, across a swath of genres, that make me far more valuable a fit than Hendrix.
I'm not a better artist. I'm not a better composer. I'm surely not a better performer.
I play guitar much better than he ever did.
That's the point of this list - which you'd know had you not refused to read the articles! I've written this 15 damned times already! Sheesh!
I'm not going to bother reading something I disagree w the premis of.
And we disagree a that basics here. You're schooled. Hendrix is still a better guitarist than you will ever be. Because he understood the totality of making art. You are only interested in textbook playing. You are a sub par musician because you think it all comes from a book and school. You fail. Hendrix is far and away a better guitarist than you will ever be. He made art, you regurgitate
