Any hope of keeping your job? I'm only here for maybe 5 more hours. Then, I'm gone for an indeterminate amount of time. I've got a show tonight and we're still not sure if we're coming back here tonight or if I'm getting a hotel room. Given where we're playing, there's some talk of giving us a 10 bedroom condo for the night - or even the whole weekend. I might do that. I just don't feel like dealing with drunken fans when they figure out where our condo is and I'm not sure that they'll post security. They have a few large guest condos for acts that come in, VIPs, and things like that. My band is useless! If I do this, they'll probably drink and smoke a little - and not even trash the condo! Horrible! ;-) We've been offered it but haven't said yes or no. I'm pretty sure part of the band is going to say yes. This may sound strange, but I want them to grow *some* ego. Just a bit over a month ago (I've been working with them since January but we didn't start performing until then), you could have seen this same band (minus me) for a $5 cover charge - maybe even free. So, they've got a ton of ingrained believes, expectations, and experiences. We're catering to a whole different niche - which is simply done by upping your production and changing where you play - and insisting on a much, much higher payment. I can't discuss the individual artist's pay, per an agreement with them, but tonight the bill for the venue is just a bit over $15,000. They used to (whole band) maybe make $600 a night - on a good night. That works out to $100 each - before expenses. If you've been following along - that's actually not that bad. Musicians are, on average, pretty poorly paid. Which is why I'm aiming for the niche and being a higher production cover band. So, they're allowed to act a little like rock stars.
