Hey finally one I know a little something about, admittedly my experience is more with dc than ac but it’ll still kill you given the chance.

I had to run that one by my lawyer, prior to even authoring it. I sent him a copy this morning with the note attached saying, "I didn't tell 'em a damned thing. It's the most useless article I've written."

His response:

"Good job."

well good work then if a lawyer says it, it must be true. I’m sure I’ll get my share of zaps soon enough though. I’ve finally got room enough to start this whole learning to play thing.

I did some quick math and I figure we use about 0.4 GJ per show. Which is somewhere a bit more than the average US household uses in a day or two. We pump that out in about 2 hours, converting it into heat and sound energy.

My stacks are 1500 watts and there's 16 of them. There's the front-space cabs which are about another 4500 watts. Then, there's the lights and those are LED which keeps us somewhat tame.

Yeah, we use more energy than your house uses in a couple of days. I think... I should check with Google, but I'm lazy.

We are NOT environmentally friendly! LOL No, no we're not.

The good news is that you're probably not going to die with a home setup. You're probably not drawing a couple hundred amps. Voltage is nasty, but amps kill.

We're also pretty much inept! Ain't none of us electricians. I run around with a multimeter and cram the probes into outlets and watch 'em for a minute or two. I need to get a giant bank for capacitance, but a good one is more than I'm willing to invest in right now. It's also very dangerous if things go sideways.

I mostly worry about dirty power. I can't run low-voltage and then spikes though 6 figures worth of gear. I just can't do it. It's insured, but I really don't want to have to order it all again and we'd have to rely on existing gear, or rent, given our current schedule. I can't wait the three to four weeks it'll take to get here and be tested - and it's absolutely not going to be the same exact models, 'cause I already cleaned Musician's Friend out of some of their stock for those models.

When I set the band up, the gear came in on the back of a semi. (It was a shared load and we were on the rear as they had additional deliveries beyond us.) I really don't want to deal with that again. I don't care that it's insured. Insurance doesn't cover my time, the down-time, or the pain in the ass that'll be.
