It eliminated a lot of labour, yes. Manual sewing was probably the second most labour intensive part of cultivating crops after harvesting.

Look, you're clearly determined to conclude that technology didn't alter ag-ec during that period so I'm going to leave you to it. I don't think any evidence I can show you will change your mind.

Are you implying that's a long time for a radical economic change?

Anyhow, politics. There were a lot of entrenched interests in both countries who hadn't made the switch to mechanised labour yet.
