There are plenty of shitty houses made of solid wood . For example Common practice years ago for building multiple story homes was ballon framing where the builder would nail as many 2x4s together staggered side by side from the first floor to the top of the top floor then a ledger board would be face nailed to the wall framing and joist applied accordingly. Even if the material used was strong as iron and strait as an arrow the application was shit and made for a shitty house . In comparison today a stud wall can’t be scabed together a stud has to go from bottom plate to top plate to eliminate weak points. While there are still applications for a ledger board face nailing is a no go through bolting is standard with a minimum of leg bolting. While I will agree with you on the shoddy materials for furniture engineered lumber has transformed the building industry we can span heavier loads over further distances with less diflection.
