Makes sense to say Russia has always been great. The soviets need the patriotism of their heritage to remind them they're great and, like today if you tell Europeans they were the major contributors to the Slave Trade, they will reject you as the leader because you don't believe in the country.

The people needed DJTrump to believe in the US's potential because if the leader only looks at the negatives and says "You're shit" the people will reject that leader.

I agree, and that's how it should be, but the soviet era is the wrong positive to focus on imo.

It'd be a bit like if America crashed hard, then a few generations later a leader was trying to restore the country by reminiscing about the "good old days" when the American-Israeli alliance was at it's height. Even if they succeed all they're doing is sowing the seeds of another crash.

Well, how about telling every US citizens about the experiments by the CIA in the 50's. Half of them will think you're a conspiracy theorist and the other half will think you're still stuck in the 50's.

Yes, that's exactly the same problem. The feds have been way too effective in convincing the US public they are synonymous with America.
