I would argue that the shared values required to engineer and preserve civilization should also be learned by children, but yes our education system retards and even prevents learning.

Can you expand on that?

Honor, high-trust society, etc.

Don't teach kids philosophy

The thesis is if you teach kids philosophy they will fuck it up. This is true. However the author then claims that if you don't teach kids philosophy they will somehow not fuck it up. This is obviously false. Teaching kids nothing will not magically prevent them from fucking up, they will still fuck it up based on what they hear, what they imagine, or just out of pure ignorance.

Focus on teaching things that won't change

That's a good idea, but that doesn't mean "teach science and not philosophy". It means, teach the timeless parts of science not the transient parts - e.g. show how water can evaporate and condense; and you can in general use this process to purify water or cause rainfall; but don't teach the particulars of modern purification engineering and precipitation modeling which are likely to be out of date in 5 years. And it also means, therefore, teach the timeless parts of philosophy not the transient parts - e.g. teach the concept of a moral dilemma/trolley problem, preferably in terms children can directly understand and interact with - but don't try and prescribe the solution (since there is no (general) one).
