In some respects, the armistice saw the intensification of the suffering, since the German Baltic coast was now effectively blockaded and German fishing rights in the Baltic annulled.

Void of nothingness is very definition of Sheol where the bad jews go. It's the separation from God and living in a dark place for eternity.
