My grandfather fought in the Spanish Civil War. My aunts, who were born years after, pathetically base their entire fucking identity around it. Not a day goes by that they don't whine about what the evil fascists did and how they're such fucking victims, going so far as to refer to it as the Spanish Holocaust, as if the left didn't massacre people. Fuck off. Probably as fake as the real holocaust. Not much of a fan of Franco, but fuck the (((2nd Republic))).

No wonder why they had to bring in marxist-leninist foreign fighters as replacements. You lose all legitimacy when you rely on foreign communist guerillas.

Spain was saved. Evil vile murderous commies were defeated.

At least for a couple of decades

The General is a great man. He fought off foreign invasion. Viva españa!

The communists murdered José Antonio Primo de Rivera and this left the field open for Franco who had his way of dealing with them.

Now socialists are again in power in Spain. Just saying.

Does anybody honestly care enough about Spain to care about this old war? I don't. Sure, it was the cause célèbre of Hemingway and his band of merry Paris vagabonds, but who gives a shit these days about Franco?

You should, it's probably the closest example of what the US is facing in the coming years. Neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother, sons against fathers.

I think that you are unfortunately correct. Reflect on the sort of statesmanship needed to navigate this hot mess and then consider the chuckle-heads at the helm of government. It could easily make the Spanish Civil war look tame in comparison if it can't be managed peacefully.

It was a milestone against communist and deserves to be remembered.
