The only reason Hitler didn’t shake his hand was because on the first day of those olympics he only congratulated German winners. Someone (can’t remember who) had a word with him that evening and told him he should either congratulate all winners or none, so he chose none. Jessy Owens himself had no complaints about his treatment in Germany, and the below was what he reportedly said about the whole affair:
"Hitler didn't snub me—it was our president who snubbed me. The president didn't even send me a telegram."
