No shit. The untrue part is that "natives" didn't sustain a culture or "tribe" (for lack of a better term) for over 500 years. In fact they thrived for about 2,000 years.

I thought that they came and went like firefly due to the constant tribal struggles

Not sure about the rest of the US but here in the Northeast, the Lenape date back at least 10,000 years.
