Shackleton and five others then made an 800-mile open-boat journey to reach South Georgia. From there, the men were eventually able to mount a rescue. Despite being stranded with little food and shelter, Shackleton and the 27 crew members survived.

One question. Is he gonna be played by Lizzo or Queen Latifah when netflix gets their grabbler-hooks onto the story.

When i was a child , i used to visit the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch , they had a fantastic display set up detailing the entire saga after leaving the icebound ship -- photos of the ship over time being trapped in the ice, photos when the rescuers first reached the survivors on elephant island, everyday items salvaged from the ship used on elephant island, clothing of the survivors/ expedition etc. All the usual stuff but Holy fck they had the actual 'boat' they made for the 800 mile journey to South Georgia - literally the size of double wide couch shaped like a fat canoe - made from 3 inch thick branches, strapped together with twine or ship rope and sail canvas over the frame -- 5 fcking guys in that for several weeks of open freezing ocean -gotta say these dudes were a fcking hearty stout breed back then .... and it all worked out , lolz White men for the win.

I'd watch a Queen Latifah Shackleton re-enactment. She'll be full of sassy remarks and funny quips about boats and getting paid.

Let's be honest, they'd cast Harambe Jones.

You all should read Endurance, Shackleton's Incredible Journey. It’s pretty long but we’ll worth it. He was an incredible leader.

Thanks for the recommendation. You must be an amazing leader to convince people to sail to Antarctica.
