We knew David Brown. The first shuttle disaster was more shocking though for some reason.
The guy who hired Judy Resnik (the brunette on the first shuttle) told me she got the job because she wouldn't stop asking him about it.
Personally I believe they are freemasons and who knows what really happened.
There is a lot more fanfare around a launch than a re-entry. Then there was the added hype of the teacher being onboard the Challenger. They were showing the launch in classrooms across the nation.
There is a sad video of the Challenger explosion where friends and family are gathered on a bleacher and they are excitingly clapping and celebrating as the shuttle exploded, then the realization sinks in.
