You're talking to the guy who was replacing a ceiling light without shutting the breaker when his wife walked in and flicked the switch because it was 'dark in the room' and she thought it would help.
Your mistake was in allowing you wife to think it is OK for a woman to operate a light-switch. Call me old-fashioned, but the realm of interior illumination is a man's domain.
How else would she see what she's doing in the kitchen?
The mind of the fairer sex is simply too gentle and fragile to handle making decisions regarding the powerful currents and flows of electromagnetism about the household; women who engage in such activities quickly develop hysterical madness, delusional grandiosity, or, worst of all, lesbianism.
You take your meals at regular times, correct? I would recommend setting up a system of timers that light up the kitchen prior to, during, and after mealtime, so the nerous burden of decision-making is removed from your fair wife.
