One bad habit in the vid. I would never shift to neutral and take my foot off the clutch at a stoplight. It would take too long to react to a situation. Shift to first and keep your foot on the clutch pedal.

Shift to first and keep your foot on the clutch pedal.

That's how my dad taught us.

Agreed. And no down shifting. I usually used 2nd gear to slow it down sometimes. Probably don’t need to and extra wear on clutch plate. But yes. I always had clutch first gear in case person behind me is a fuck head. Saved my truck that way. Someone rear ended me but I was able to pull up to lessen the impact. And no whiplash

Lol no down shifting. I could up and downshift my truck without the clutch. Just matching engine speeds. It's pretty counter intuitive to hit the accelerator when you're coming up to a red light.

I learned to drive in old farm trucks. Knowing how to double-clutch to match speed when upshifting was necessary, especially if the truck was loaded.

All the vehicles I drove until my 30s were manual.

That doesn't work for Model T Fords though (I have a restored 1926 Model T Open Car Pick-Up).

Even I have to relearn the process every time I take it out!

I learned to drive with a 3-on-the-tree. I love a manual TDI for the diesel compression braking. It makes driving so much more interesting.

I will never forget the cringe when I first started learning how to drive stick. My buddy had a Probe GT and he let me commute to school one day in it. I thought I was cool then in the parking lot I stalled several times.

Neat stuff, thank you.
