State of mind. Don't fall into the "I'm sick" mentality. Mind over matter.
Work! Or workout. Do something physical that will make you sweat.
Induce a fever. Sauna or a hot bath (epsom salts never hurt). Foods like brown rice can raise your body temp. Also ice cream with Cayenne pepper added. Both will do it by themselves but adding them together is even better. #3 is also part of this.

sure it'll cost a fortune and end up prolonging your suffering via poisoning, but that is "what the kids do"
On the other hand, I recommend drink lots of clean water, rest, open the windows couple times a day to circulate in fresh air, eat some oranges.
As others have said alcohol can help an acute throat infection. One of my favourite whiskeys is cask strength at over 60%, a couple of shots of that and a ten second gargle does the trick.
Honey and lemon mixed strongly some warm water will help almost any virus, and lots of garlic in your savoury dishes will also help
