Check your state laws for maximum cc, till you have to buy permission from them. The manufacturer knows that number, and will have something 1 lower.

Good idea, I hadn't though of that. I have a bike license so I was also thinking of a full size anyways, like a KLR650.

How mod-able are the scooters to get the speed/horsepower up?

There's a little, depends how much you want to get into it.

Scooter is not my primary transportation. I'll probably get an electric motorcycle when I find one for a good price.

I'm not into doing maintenance. Takes up so much time. I didn't run my scooter bike for a few months, now I need to clean the carburetor.. get fuel injected.

I dont mind maintenance. If it breaks when I go to ride it I get pissed but I usually stay ahead of it. I've messed with carbs but just about every bike has been FI for awhile.

KLR with the 10 gal gas tank will go 550 miles on a fill up. There is the WR250R/X that does better. Smaller cc and fuel injected. Just sucks on the highway.
