We did things with a minivan that we couldn't have done with a station wagon. We bought our first in '88. Great for travel, hauled baby supplies, then bicycles, and once, slept in the back, when we didn't think we'd need a hotel room. Saw the Northern Lights!
Later, bought a conversion van. I had a daycare, the raised roof made it so easy to get little kids in and out of carseats.
We still have our third, but it's for sale, my son used it to make money doing odd jobs, and moving big things for us.
Now he has a used Mercedes cargo van, and has started a real business.
Can't do that stuff with a station wagon.
Just another opinion.
