Got it to the point where the kernel was configed and I couldn't install the bootloader because I set up the partions for gpt but the laptop only supports mbr. Finally got to reading up on how to swtich gpt to mbr, do a stage4 backup incase it didn't work. The machine is now booting up!

Kernel mitigations off... ready to compile 217 items with world and then x / xcfe, fix the wifi drivers etc.

If it's not used to connect to the network/has no network capability then that's fine I guess. It's not so much the personal data on it that I think of, but rather the potential for the PC to get captured and becoming part of a botnet
