Encourages move to Linux but, for goodness sake, RTFM first

GNU-Linux has had 30 years to get their shit together for general population users. Though there has been improvements over this time, it's far from ready to be a mainstream user OS. The GNU-Linux community has only themselves to blame for this.

The Winpocalypse has been a creeping reality since ME, then Vista, then 8. Now 11 is here, 25 years after the first brushes and signs.

This is like ignoring tectonic rumblings near Mt St Helens for five years and being shocked when the big one blows.

So there will be a bunch of cheap used computers up for sale around october I'm hearing. If they are afraid of linux then they will likely buy another newer computer and sell off the old ones or you can go to a shop and ask to call me if someone has an old one or if they get one that they want under 300 for. Sounds like opportunity is a few months away to me.

I just realized this is a good time to score some cheap—or free—older hardware that some Windows users had to abandon.

Aside from that, this website is a bit confusing. They call KDE an operating system, but it’s not. It’s a desktop environment that you can use in several Linux distributions. Anyone trying to make the switch on their own is going to be confused by that for a while.

At the bottom they link to endof10.org, which doesn’t directly tell you how to install a distro with KDE. The DIY Install Guide (endof10.org) there also leaves you to figure most of it out on your own. I guess they didn’t want to favor any single distro, but new users want to be told which one to use. Pick a Windows user friendly distro and give them a full step by step guide.

I hope there are better guides floating around.
