MTP is such a nightmare that I am very slightly traumatized by it.

Since more than 5 years, MTP has been a source of headache after headache for me.

And since Android version 7, Google has crippled the escape hatch USB-OTG so that one can only access it through their crappy own file manager.

In Android 6, at least third-party apps had read access.
In Android 7, game over.

Dear Google, that's why people choose to root their devices!
Because you deny them important functionality!

MTP often finds some way to fail.

Sometimes, it works.

But it is unpredictable and unstable.

At least, it is much more stable on Linux Mint than on Windows, yet far from ideal (mass storage).
