On Samsung Unpacked 2015 Episode 1 (Galaxy S6 keynote), Hyun Yeul Lee showed off how more camera modes are now visible at a glance, without scrolling, which is good, but:
Ironically, the exact opposite happened to camera settings, and it is still like that on the newest phone (Note 10).
is what the Galaxy S5 (2014) camera settings looked like:
- Icons with text labels underneath.
- Grid of 16 settings at once on screen.
- The camera is still on stand-by. Tapping on the background behind the grid (camera viewfinder) immediately brings back the main camera viewfinder interface, because the camera is already loaded.
- Customizable shortcuts on the main camera user interface.
But on the Galaxy S6, not only are the setting shortcuts no longer customizeable (e.g. no more custom shortcut to video resolution setting), but the is on a completely separate page and a list without icons.
While viewing the settings, the camera is not on stand-by. Exiting the menu requires the camera to load up again, instead of being already loaded.
