Newer Android versions require holding Home+Power buttons (or one of the volume keys, usually down + power button) for a second to grab a screenshot.
Until Android 2.X (not sure about 3.X), a short press was enough. iOS always had it this way, which is admittedly one advantage of it.
Also, until Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on tablets, as far as I can recall, there used to be an on-screen screenshot shortcut in the virtual navigation key bar.
If I designed it, I would utilise a short press for screenshot and a long press for screencast (screen video capture).
I'd rather capture an accidential screenshot once in a while than having to hoooooooooold the buttons for a whole second each time I capture a screenshot.
