I worked behind the scenes at the Ministry show in Chicago 1996 - it was the loudest show I've ever seen, Lay Lady Lay as it should always be heard - just deafening. Sensational. Al Jourgensen had the tiniest, shiniest black Miata parked in the alley - it actually looked like a MatchBox car. An hour before the show he locked himself inside his dressing room with two groupies and an eight ball and two heavies guarding the door. I have a friend whose point of pride is that Al owes him $100 in drug money. Good times!
Right on! I saw every Ministry show from 1988-2008 when they came to the West Coast. Chigago '96 must have been amazing! Lay Lady Lay was crisp and Filth Pig and Dead Guy tore the speakers up, too
I do, I think about that Ministry show not infrequently. I was up in the balcony and there were two opposing circular mosh pits going at once, in opposite directions, the wildest I've ever seen, people were carried out! That same summer at the same venue on my birthday, I crashed the Sex Pistols dressing room and fangirled Johnny. He took it pretty well, didn't eviscerate me.
I thought you would dig this, from
Al Jourgensen drove a motorcycle into the studio during the recording of Scumdogs of the Universe and spelt out the word FUGAZI in cocaine. I believe it to be true
Ah but on the WEST coast I saw Mogwai in San Francisco and THAT has to be the biggest, most epic show I've ever seen.
