Trapping / lap sao pak sao
One example, he's not the best I've seen at that, but it illustrates the idea https://youtu.be/_8QXdPwwr3Q?t=48
Other examples of trapping https://youtu.be/_8QXdPwwr3Q
This comes from wignchun kungfu and was imported in the west, and modernized, by bruce lee, who was one of the earliest MMA practitioners, he mixed boxing and wrestling techniques to his tradi kungfu background. See his book tao of the jeet kune do https://archive.org/stream/pdfy-SP1dBDr6xLGrVfF9/Tao%20Of%20Jeet%20Kune%20Do#mode/2up page 30 to 41 is a good start
As you can see btw all this is rather static... They don't move much in those vids
If you ever had to train one it's this one https://youtu.be/g6ALLxX95jE?t=48
This of course (trapping) exists in boxing, but what makes the difference is that there are gloves in boxing which limits the efficiency for obvious reasons. Also, "uraken" / back of the fist https://pic8.co/sh/EtedNg.jpeg is much less efficient with gloves, and it's the "super punch" when it comes to trapping
"Uraken" is somehow kind of like the "flicker jab" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nyHWRuNGfg while it's different they are cousins
With trapping you essentially grab the forearm of your adversary, preventing him from blocking and/or generating a wrong reflex, essentially leaving him open to the following uraken among other things. I saw tyson do it once in his own way but on series of hooks, blocking the arms of his adversary to create a breach then bang. It's not trapping, but it's kind of the same intent
