Whether mental laziness or an unwillingness to suffer, they end up being the villains in the name of their desire to be heroes.

Then they commit to their decision, because it works like a cult, and they double down in response to being confronted with conflicting evidence or ideas, or to being confronted with resistance that is stronger than they expected it to be.

This is the result of them growing up with heroes that lived in fictionland, which is a very different world from reality, a world where the nature of reality itself us centered around the heroes so that they are both factually correct and morally justified.

Our reality, on the other hand, is different, and if fictional heroes were here, they'd either change their alignment or become our villains, since here reality is different in that it favors other factual and moral claims as being correct.

I always piss off people by arguing that the whites of this world should switch places with the ones found in fiction, the whites in fiction who are prejudiced would find their prejudices confirmed, and the nonracist whites of this world will be surrounded by nonwhites as we would wish them to be.

They absolutely despise you for pointing out that fiction is not an accurate depiction of reality.
