All in one post so it is readable: I'm in the middle of a desert on a dirt road. The road stretches horizon to horizon in each direction and it is very flat. In the very distance I can see mountains in every direction. Big, dry, brown mountains. There are power lines on poles along the road and these are the only signs of civilization. There are no phone, data or cable wires on the poles; just power lines. The poles look a little different than in the US. I'm thinking maybe the Peruvian high desert? Right or left are the only choices and they look identical. I pick right. I walk forever and nothing changes. The mountains never get closer. After many many miles there is another power line joining the one by the road. These lines stretch out into the desert to the right and disappears over the horizon. I keep following the road. I walk for many more miles. Twice I pass small shack size masonry structures with dirt floors made from local rocks. I keep following the road Eventually I come to some signs of civilization. 5 Small buildings and a soccer field smoothed out of the desert. Definitely not the US. There is a T intersection in the road with another road comming in from the left... and a sign. To the left : Quera 6 Strait: Abra Latte 7 Strait: Agua de Castilla 14 Spanish. Definitly south America I stay strait. Agua, Water means more civilization In Agua de Castilla I find a sign pointing telling me it is 47km to ruta 52. I'm thinking that will be a paved road. Ruta 52 is paved and I find a sign telling me I am in the Northern Providence of Argentina. 80 km to Jujuy. Looks like an actual city 80km of annoying switch backs crossing the Andes... Once I summit the views get nicer. There is a little green in the world Jujuy is a Big city... at least it is big to explore with a mapping program... I try sticking to the highway. Looking for signs for an Airport. This takes forever. Found sign: Palpala Aeropuerto Rutas 66 1 Palpala here I come! On Ruta 66 I found a sign that said: Accesso A Terminal And I got excited... It was a bus terminal. I no airport yet. Aeropuerto: 28km. Sigh. I hit Palpala in way less than 28km. Palpala Airport is not in Palpala proper How the fuck does the highway split into two roads going in two directions but they are both Ruta 66?!?! Sign for Aeropuerto Dr H. Guzman. Don't know what happened to Palpala Airport. Don't care. 100yds latter there is an exit with Airport Entrance. This is close as I get with street view. Entrance says Aeropuerto International Jujuy. Don't know what the fuck is with that... Jujuy is like 30km behind me but I do not care. I won, it's an airport and an international one at that. Northern Argentina is ugly. Crossing the mountains was nice.
