Well yeah, that’s a real thing. Reddit is loaded with bots. Pretty impressive on the programmers’ parts how they can shoot up in karma like a rocket by doing things like reposting links and titles that are successful on there and reposting upvoted comments from one thread into another. Exposes a lot about the user base there and maybe most people in general.
I used to have a gang of accounts on there for the purpose of getting traffic to subreddits I moderated. For instance, a trendy new makeup company was all the rage. They had an affiliate/refer-a-friend program. If the website or company name was “HappyShades” I’d create /r/HappyShades. Then you do some quick css, sticky (2) posts with a discount code (your referral code), and create an IFTTT recipe to turn new tweets/Instagram/blog/facebook page posts to posts on the subreddit. It’s auto-pilot from there.
Then, Reddit took that drastic shift to being the jewwy liberal shithole it is now and my call-outs started getting personal accounts banned. Then my ips banned. Then I said fuck it.
