He's desperate to keep users he's pissed off from leaving for places like Poal (hell, even Saidit) and he'll use his own legitimate lack of coding skills to feign ignorance to this.

What about overwriting all of your content with random characters? Bonus is it means they can't compress it.

It can still be compressed, just with a much lower ratio. I just did some testing on my PC with yesterday's messages log using gzip, bzip2, and xz. It compressed, but the randomized messages file compressed far less.
