Before they started to sling crap consumer goods to keep up with the likes of BB and Circuit City. Needed some very thin gauge solder, couldn't find any, and had to settle on the standard joe schmo thick gauge shit sold at a big box hardware store.

Radio Shack's passives were generally ok, I had no problem buying a pack of carbon resistors or a mylar cap, but their semiconductors were absolute shit. Most of them were...acceptable but almost all of them were seconds of some sort. Those big packs of parts were all binned specials. They worked but never met manufacturer's spec except in the broadest of sense. Like Poly Paks garbage. No surprise they used the same font for their logo...

I remember trying to use the LM337 they sold. No matter how I wired those things, they'd self-destruct from noise. I built the circuit right out of the data sheets and it would kill itself.
