Yes the industry took a conscious shift around 2000 to appeal to a more international audience. You'll notice american colloquialisms and turns of phrase disappeared. Look at the marvel movies, while the graphics are better the writing is shit. They had to lower the IQ level of the writing as well for a more international appeal.
The Street Fighter movie got made fun of when it came out, because it was a movie based off of a video game, but it has some of the greatest dialogue and acting I've ever seen. Just look up the scene between M. Bison and Sonya.
Top fucking notch.
There is a recent movie called JCVD
I haven't seen in yet
Last movie that Raul Julia starred in, and he definitely made the best of it. He chews the scenery in every shot he's in, and it's glorious.
you son of a bitch! What's the matter? CIA got you pushing too many pencils?
I'm going through Rageaholic Cinema playlist and checking those movies out. They are good fun and really silly. At this point I haven't hit a movie that's really subversive, so it's quite enjoyable.
I dont really miss the cheese lethal weapon style movies, I miss the historical epics like Troy, Gladiator or Alexander. White and glorious.
Nothing childish about conquering your enemies or demons. It's childish to be a coward to them.
Watch the 1997 run of Berserk.
