Your using older examples because these guys were in every tv show and movie from the early 1970's all the way up to the mid 2000's. I remember Kris Christofferson playing Han Solo on Donny and Marie Show. Jeff was everything from Tron to the Big Lebowski. If you were to say these actors have no younger successors then I totally agree with you. They are few and far between. Joaquin Phoenix, Kylo Ren, Star Lord, Deadpool. Not to be confused with super wealthy posh British actors like Bane, Dr. Strange, Young Magneto, and Spiderboy who were ordained by elite acting academy's to become superstars.
I am saying they were underused. It's a simple matter of statistics. Look up how many movies were made when they were young and you will see that they had almost no work. And yes, it's obvious that there are absolutely no new masculine alpha actors full of testosterone now. Hollywood is hiring only average type actors. At least there are still some feminine actresses.
