The very stupidest somehow garner the most attention. This is most likely deliberate. I like to think the majority is still reasonably intelligent, they are just largely prone to believing the propaganda because we've all been inculcated to do so from birth. Becoming an adult means, or should mean, that you start to question and find genuine truth where one can. Perhaps therein lies the problem: too few are willing to actually grow up these days. I don't know, this is all high falutin' nonsense and people have probably pretty much always been this way... so it's totally fair to have a generally low opinion of them.
