dont buy speakers.
I spent tons of money in a pair of speakers, a subwoofer and a bunch of other crap (front and rear and the whole set up). Bought a big ass YAMAHA amplifier...
...It was cool and the music was great and the parties and the movies and all...
Until I saw a set of cheap ass Logitech speakers that did the same work at the 1/10th of the price, size and without an amplifier.
Really...you are lucky you had to return them.
Buy a set of computer speakers and see for yourself.

I usually recommend that people buy used speakers. For $200 to $300 used you could get something the equivalent to what you would have to spend $2,000 on new. Speakers have an extremely low resale and great deals can be found
