I can't remember the last time I watched the Academy Awards, but I used to watch them faithfully every year, all the way through to the bitter end. And they were four-hour shows. Sometime between 15 and 20 years ago I just stopped, because I wasn't going to the theater to see movies, and didn't know any of the movies being awarded prizes.
I realised the Oscars mean shit around the time Erin Brokovits won an Oscar.
For a while after the Oscars still meant something but now they ve been dead for what...10 years?
They used to be so big, families all around the world would stay up all night, suffer through the red carpet moments and watch them. Then people would go to work tired and sleepless and talk about it.
Now, I can guess they had Clinton recite passages from her latest book, a bunch of celebrities bitch about borders not being widen open enough and chris rock cracking jokes about whites.
