Spielberg has used his movies as a platform to attack the American family unit;

The Sugarland Express (1974) Dysfunctional parents whose child is being taken off them.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). Dysfunctional family unit that falls apart. Child abducted by unseen forces.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). dysfunctional one parent family whose son is taken by the authorities in a cover up.

Poltergeist (1982; Writer & producer) Family unit destroyed by occult forces that takes their daughter.

Empire of the Sun (1987). Child abandoned by parents during a war.

Jurassic Park (1993) Children on trip have parental issues.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Again children on trip have parental issues.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001). Robot boy programmed to love new parents is betrayed by them and disposed off.

War of the Worlds (2005) Again dysfunctional family with parents separated.

The BFG (2016). Again young child snatched from parents lives with dubious adult.

Back to the Future (1985, executive producer). Again dysfunctional family unit.

Steven Spielberg hates American family values.

this is not as much as Spielberg hating family, as much as it is about children embarking on adventures.

And children embark on adventures easier if there is no family to hold them behind.

Any child relates to a super hero...but they have a family holding them back. They d love to go on adventure, but...they are concerned about their family, plus their family would never allow them to embark on an adventure.

So?

Just have them all orphans and problem solved.

Peter Parker, Clark Kent, Harry Potter...every kid is roughly an oprhan in the movies.
