Why people like horrors?

I think people like horrors because the characters die of external causes, so they help forget the fact that people are mortal and die of diseases. Horror movies make believe that the smart ones can avoid death.

At least it's what I feel when watching horrors.

I like ghosts and demons (exorcist), horror flicks over slice and dice (Friday the 13th).

Horror went down hill in the 90's. Rob Zombie did what he could for the slice and dice type but that only went so far.
