Why people like horrors?

I think people like horrors because the characters die of external causes, so they help forget the fact that people are mortal and die of diseases. Horror movies make believe that the smart ones can avoid death.

At least it's what I feel when watching horrors.

Slasher/Monster Horror is a ritual where representations of what our society most dislikes are killed by some outside force, which is then dispatched by the representation of what our society most likes.
