I wanted to like this movie. I like Keanu Reeves. I liked the first Matrix movie a lot ... not quite so much numbers 2 and 3. And this new movie is not really a bad movie. It's just ... weak. It doesn't have the same creative look that the first Matrix movie has, the steam-punk noir look. It doesn't have the same tension, the same power, the same focus of ideas.

The writing is just ... weak. The direction is weak. The sets, costumes and lighting is weak. You know what I was thinking as I watched this movie? I was thinking that it looks like it was made by someone who directs television commercials for a living. It is so slick and so shallow, so devoid of real moments of crisis, of transformation. Also, I have to say, I missed the original Morpheus, and the original Smith. I'm not sorry I watched the movie, but it left me feeling empty.

The final scene where -- well, I won't spoil it for those who haven't yet seen it -- should have been powerful and uplifting, but it wasn't. The build-up to it was ... you guessed it, weak. Johnny Carson used to have a saying, "If you buy the premise, you buy the bit." What that means is that if something is set up properly, it will be powerful, but if the set-up is weak, it will be a disappointment. I was disappointed. I didn't really entirely buy the premise.

yeah, so they ended up tip toeing the line as in "not too much sjw and let's reclaim the redpill at the same time" and in the end it appeals to nobody, it's mediocre

>Things like the Red Pill/Blue Pill trope or meme and how it was kidnapped by the right wing, the verb ‘to red-pill’ and so on. So one thing we were mindful of is how to reclaim that trope. To renew the meaning of Red Pill/Blue Pill.

...

I'm not even sure how they did that. Was it the thing about how the pills don't matter and the important thing is she just has to make a choice?

Because I think the rest of the pill stuff just sort of reaffirmed the existing "right wing" metaphor. Like Neo dumping all the blue pills in the sink and lines about the Matrix filling your head with so much garbage you can't even think clearly until you leave.

Regardless, it's a dumb idea to try to "reclaim" it. The genie is out of the bottle. No one cares about their dumb new movie and nothing in it is going to turn into anything that redefines culture. Still, I guess they gotta try to get the propaganda in everywhere.

They haven't successfully reclaimed the red pill. I mean, how could they? Like the original creator of pepe trying to reclaim that character.

Marvel just changed punishers logo to try and reclaim ... not sure what they are trying to reclaim actually. They changed the logo because the right is using the punisher skull logo on guns and whatnot so Marvell changed the punisher logo to try and take the power away from it or something?

These people are totally stupid.
