Howesabout thrillers or authentic occult horror?
The Clovehitch Killer is a great 'thriller' with a fantastic performance by Dylan McDermott. I don't know why this one didn't get more attention.
The Free Fall is a horror film that though not perfect is a surprisingly strong movie for a first time movie maker. The ending is a bit cliched but the lead up to the finale and the finale itself is very strong.
Wheelman is a simple but tense crime flick starring Frank Grillo who doesn't get enough dramatic work IMO. It's Netflix movie though so probably not on Tubi and the like.
A Dark Song is a slow burner occult film that I thought was fantastic. If you can stick it out to the ending the payoff is pretty great.
If you've never seen it Rosemary's Baby is a master class in understated horror.
Dylan was great in American horror story. Rosemary is one of my faves. Obviously a dark song by title post. Love slow burners. Wish I could get more Toni Servillo movies. Italian films are the best
Hi again. I just watched a 2017 film called Residue that was way better than it had any right to be, and thought I'd pass it along in case you're interested. Unfortunately the only place I could find it was on You Tube but maybe you'll have better luck finding a copy than I did -- it was on Netflix but it isn't currently available in my region. The ending is kind of weak but almost everything else about the film is so remarkable that I didn't mind.
Silly me re. A Dark Song. I initially couldn't recall the name of the film and by the time I figured it out I'd forgotten you'd already mentioned that you saw it like 4 times. It's one of those films, like Rosemary's Baby, that sticks with you. I'm looking forward to watching it again.
