communication lines into local police jurisdiction
information about national guard operations in the event a governor decides to perform some large scale operation or misuse those guards
frontline reports from hospitals and internal city communication.

Direct connection to communities and their middle class, because many of these men and women are firmly middle class.
And that is just it. It takes all kinds of people.
So don't ask "is xyz bad/good? Is xyz a honeypot or legit?"
Because the truth is almost every organization with more than so much as two or three people, is going to have someone who is either

So you always ask, "how can I use this to our advantage?"

Legitimacy is the route to change. And legitimacy requires changing the political middle's opinion, and bringing them to your side. That or a highly influential subset of the population, be it rich donors, unionists, police, teachers, whoever.
You can be "militant" in your appearance, training, organization even, while becoming legitimate and politically relevant, so long as you remain peaceful and open about your goals and agendas. Be frank with people. Be honest. Show them who and what is causing all the problems in their town, city, state, region, or nation. And then ask them for their help.
And you keep asking till you have enough to affect major outcomes.
Go in undercover and record the group, and see for ourselves I guess. Most can figure out the Fed plant or fake groups in general. Especially if they suggest violence as a final solution. Also, the more people you deescalate, effectively the more budget/funding you outright deny to federal agencies. They use manufactured incidents to justify every x amount increase in their budget. So the deescalation of people and prevention of violence is a legitimate assault on what matters most to them: their budgets and pensions.
Always interfere with your opponents money. Strikes right at the root of their ability to operate.
