Well I can only say from my personal experience. Awhile back in the early 1990's Newspapers and TV stations had moderate to low pay staff that would pull AP and Reuters (two separate competing companies back then) and then personalize the information to suit their director bosses or the editor in chief.
All those jobs were eliminated and gutted around the time of the big housing crisis. So what you have now is an unpaid intern that probably prints what comes straight off (AP/Reuters) feed and sends it directly to the Editor in Chief who then prints or has a talking head repeat it.
